Scale Plans

A scale plan is a fundamental requirement of any full accident investigation. It is important that the plan is correct in that it shows all relevant details and it is not an 'artistic impression' of the site. This is particularly important in those cases where there is some form of limited visibility. The most common example of this is perhaps when a driver is negotiating a bend in a rural area and his forward vision is limited by the presence of hedgerows. In a case such as this a sketch plan has no value and indeed may well be misleading.

All plans supplied by the author will be computer drawn from measurements taken by himself. This way the author can be sure that the plan he produces is truly correct. The author will provide as many copies as required which will obviate photocopying large sheets of paper.

Note:- If presented with a plan that you wish to check to see if it is true to scale, it is wise to check it against photographs of the site. Look for detail such as the position of road markings, street furniture etc. A few minutes comparison will often show if the plan is likely to be valid.
