Accident Types

There are numerous ways of categorising accidents. For the purpose of this site they are split into six broad groups. The reason is to briefly explain the problems specific to that type of accident and how they can be overcome.

It should be remembered that if good quality evidence is collected at the scene then any subsequent reconstruction could be a very accurate interpretation of what actually occurred.

Occasionally this evidence is not available. However that does not necessarily mean that a reconstruction cannot be undertaken. Sometimes there are physical features such as a bend, hillcrest or parked vehicles that limit the visibility or the speeds of the vehicles/persons involved. Based on these physical features it is often possible to deduce what could or could not have taken place.

Normally a vehicle has suffered damage and this may give an indication of its likely speed at the moment of impact and also the relative movement between that vehicle and the object that was struck.

It is rare that there is such a paucity of evidence that no reconstruction can be attempted.
